The last month of winter at school
On February 1st, our school community too entered the last month of winter at school. Our mood was ready for spring and we began the lessons with the energy of spring. Our little ones have worked as hard as ever. We repeated colors, shapes, counted up to twenty, remembered letters already learned, new words, wrote everything on our little boards, learned a new letter R. In the little circle we sang our favorite songs. As well, we paid close attention to the names of months and days of the week. After that children studied all the four seasons, they discussed what they notice in changing nature during each of the seasons. The youngest also learned which months belong to which time of year and colored the trees by the appropriate time of year. Although these students are the youngest, they read as the oldest, they have read the Lithuanian book "Kikas." Our oldest dealt with the theme of the “Formų pasaulyje,” explored various forms, learned new words, and tried to remember words they had learned in the past. The children also listened to the fairy tale, had a discussion about it. They practised how to name the animals they saw in the book, and started an art project “Lithuania.” For the occasion of the upcoming February 16, our elders have studied and recited poems, in addition they had a test. During the history lessons, the children explored the significance of Vytautas the Great's rule, analyzed historical symbols, photographs, and maps. The students also engaged in a discussion about perspectives on history, how and why understanding perspectives is important to us today. Like the changing nature we are in a constant process: to master our dance steps and the songs. We move on from winter towards spring and all kinds of rebirth.
