Do I Speak Properly? Distance Learning Lessons on Language Culture.

On December 13, distance learning technology was used for lessons given by Robertas Gedrimas, who is a lecturer of Lithuanian language, history, and culture at Siauliai University.  The presentation focused on the development of what is today standard Lithuanian and interesting facts about Jonas Jablonski, who coined new words for the language.

The speaker explained the systems in place to ensure that standard Lithuanian is taught and is correctly used. The students were also asked to try to apply some of the rules for constructing grammatical sentences, such as in using reflexive verbs, adverbs, and prepositional phrases.  Also, we learned how words are built, such as how to modify the name of a country or town to make the name given to someone who lives there.
